Grant Program for Graduate Student Participation in Conferences In Canada 2024-2025

The Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies is pleased to announce the Grant Program for Graduate Students at the Hebrew University to Participate in a Conference or to give a talk in Canada held by a Canadian university.  This program aims to support graduate students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from the social sciences, humanities, law and social work. Priority will be given to PhD students, particularly those in stage B.

The maximum grant amount to be awarded is 1,500 CAD (Canadian Dollars).
Each student is eligible to receive this grant only once.

Submission Deadline:  February 25, 2025.

Applicants will receive notification of the decision during the second semester.

Applications will be processed on a "first come, first served" basis until the quota is fully allocated. Approval is subject to financial confirmation. Please check with the center if the grant is still available, even if you missed the deadline.

Submit the following application materials in English via email to the Halbert Centre:

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • A 400-500-word synopsis of your conference paper, written in Times New Roman, 12-point font, and 1.5 spacing. Each page should be numbered consecutively, and your name and email address should appear in the top right-hand corner of each page.
  • A letter of invitation from the conference organizers.
  • A letter of recommendation from your research/thesis advisor. The advisor should send the letter directly via email, in Hebrew or English, to the Halbert Centre.

Evaluation Criteria: Your application will be evaluated based on its overall academic excellence and the extent of Canadian content in your paper. Priority will be given to PhD students, particularly those in stage B.

 

Post-Conference Report: Within four weeks after your return, please submit a brief report in English (250-350 words). The report should describe the contribution of the conference to your academic experience and interests. The center encourages adding relevant photos to the report. The report and other materials will be incorporated into the center's report and distributed to the Academic Committee at HUJI, the Advisory Committee in Canada, and the center's newsletter and website.
